Oddities are creatures that are not easily classed and have yet to be fully understood.

Creeper's Vine

Habitat: Temperate to Warm

The Creeper’s Vine (sometimes referred to as a Hairy or Haired Beauty, or a Devil’s Lantern) is a deadly variety of animated plant. It is carnivorous and it’s method of obtaining food is through clever, if not cruel, suggestion and trickery. It deceives small animalselieving it is a potential mate. Oddly enough with the exception of the Degern Hill Lizard, this plant seems to only be able to fool mammals. It has been proven that the effect doesn’t work on djinn or any creature with djinn level of intelligence. It primarily feeds on rodents, some breeds of wild cat, and a host of domestic animals.

It is believed the plant is in a continual state of releasing false pheromones into the air which are more powerful than normal and have other effects such as clouding judgment and thought. So far there are no signs that this plant uses any magical means to deceive. There are also no supporting facts or clues to why this plant, unlike almost all other plants of the world, is animated.

The vine has one animated limb that is used to force larger prey down it’s gullet where the prey is digested over several days. This limb is marked with bands of vibrant color. Usually the arm remains still as most small prey climbs right into the plant’s mouth with no need for aid after which the plant slams shut.

In the fall and winter months these plants become more docile, and it is common for farmers or townsfolk to go out and chop them down or cut the heads from sprouts. They do this because of their fear of loosing livestock and pets to, and the fear is not without warrant. Domestic animals seem especially weak to the vine’s methods.

Zelnth
Diet: Carnivore
Habitat: Lightly forested areas and open foggy or damp areas.

The gas-filled Zelnth, or sometimes called a Blind Hunter, is one of the few natural predators of its kind. It floats stealthily after prey in forested or foggy areas, making absolutely no sound as it very rarely touches anything. It propels itself by expelling gas through a slit at its base, which also allows it to control its altitude.

The Zelnth possesses two unique external pouches, called Clevont (pronounced clay-vont) sacs. Inside these pouches live thousands of microscopic organisms called Clevonts. The Clevonts symbiotically live off the mucus produced within the Clevont sacs. The Zelnth and its Clevonts have a special bond and are able to communicate to a small degree by transferring short electrical nerve pulses back and forth. The Zelnth is completely blind and cannot hear nor taste; to put it shortly, the Clevonts let it know what is going on around it.

When the Zelnth is within range of its prey, internal valves open to expel the uncountable remaining Clevonts into the air through the long bony tubes that protrude from the Zelnth’s back. So many of the microscopic Clevonts are released that the Zelnth is often completely shrouded by them. The Clevonts spread in all directions until the precise location of the prey is found. Instantly, the location is relayed to all Clevonts in the immediate area, passing from one to another until finally the information reaches the sensor on the top of the Zelnth. The Clevonts swarm the creature until the air is so thick with them the prey passes out from asphyxiation. The Zelnth continues at its meticulous pace to the massed Clevonts and the waiting prey. It vomits acid on its prey that digests it at a surprising rate. The Zelnth then consumes the digested material.

The tail of the Zelnth is extremely flexible, very much like a tentacle. It aids the creature in heavily wooded areas, preventing it from becoming stuck or rupturing itself. The Zelnth is surprisingly vulnerable, despite the armor plating on its back. The underside is especially soft. If attacked a Zelnth is a fairly easy target and often dies before any attempt to defend itself can be made. Thus, the Zelnth is careful to avoid its prey during its attack.

Next to nothing is known about Zelnth breeding habits.

Atamus Snail (Giant Snail)
Diet: Herbivore
Habitat: Temperate or warm forests.

The Atamus snail is the largest known gastropod known of on land. The snails are very docile, and often seem unaware of their surroundings. A full grown Atamus can reach 150 to 200 feet from tail-tip to nose but it is uncommon to see one survive for that long.

In rare cases they are used for carrying large amounts of stone or lumber and are very easy to work with. However because of their speed other animals are often used even if they can’t take the same payload. At normal movement they travel about the same speed as a person walking, which compared to their size it could be argued is incredibly slow.
